WHAT WE MEAN BY “BUSH”

Here, we say bush—not herbs.

Bush is how we refer to the plants passed down through kitchens, backyards, and generations. Bush was used for digestion, inflammation, pain, women’s care, cooling the body, and keeping balance.

Bush was never rushed.

It was picked with intention—often before sunrise, while the dew still rested on the leaves and prepared with gratitude.

This knowledge wasn’t written down. It was lived.

My Roots

I grew up in a yard where bush was part of everyday life.

There was almost always a pot on the stove—quietly steaming—while the day unfolded around it. Bush wasn’t something we studied. It was something we lived with. Something you reached for when the body felt off, when digestion was slow, when pain lingered, or when you simply needed to “keep the body right.”

My grandmother taught us through watching, listening, and being told,

“Come, gal, drink this.”
