My Roots

I grew up in a yard where bush was part of everyday life.

There was almost always a pot on the stove—quietly steaming—while the day unfolded around it. Bush wasn’t something we studied. It was something we lived with. Something you reached for when the body felt off, when digestion was slow, when pain lingered, or when you simply needed to “keep the body right.”

My grandmother taught us through watching, listening, and being told,

“Come, gal, drink this.”

She knew when to pick bush—before sunrise, while the dew still rested on the leaves. Not because it sounded poetic, but because it showed respect. Respect for the plant. Respect for timing. Respect for the relationship between land and body.

Before harvesting, there was always gratitude. A pause. An acknowledgment that what we were taking had a purpose.

That wisdom stayed with me.

Arawak Herbal Blends was born from those memories—of yard, pot, bush, and tradition—and from a desire to create space for women who feel called to this kind of care, even if they didn’t grow up with it.

Here, we say bush, not herbs.

Bush is how we talk about plants that support digestion, ease inflammation, cool the body, warm the body, and help us return to balance. Sweet broom, Carrion crow,  Carilla, Suriname cherry, and Crab oil. These aren’t trends. They are remedies that have lived in kitchens, backyards, and hands for generations.

Welcome to the Yard!
